TheWay of the Intercepting Fist

Jeet Kune Do translated as "The Way of the InterceptingFist" and also referred to as "Scientific Streetfighting" was developed by the late, great martial artistand film star, Bruce Lee. In Lee's movies, he displayed his JeetKune Do but in a flashy manner. Lee's original Jeet Kune Do wasdeveloped in his Oakland, California branch school with hisfriend and training partner, the late James Yimm Lee. Theoriginal Jeet Kune Do was developed strictly for combatapplications void of sport aspects and aesthetics. Leerevolutionized the martial arts at a time when tradition was invogue. He spoke out against all traditional martial arts andclaimed what the majority of martial artists were practicing wasnot applicable for real street self-defense. Lee taught us toabsorb what is useful. The nucleus of Jeet Kune Do (JKD) is WingChun Kung Fu with influences from western boxing and fencing. Thehand techniques are fast, deceptive and powerful. Low levelkicking is emphasized to quickly disable the opponent. Evasivefootwork and re-directional moves are utilized along with westernboxing techniques. Techniques from Ju-Jitsu are incorporated intoour modern day system to enhance combat effectiveness from allzones of fighting. Master Tom Bryan concentrates on the originaldrills, techniques, principals and concepts of the original JeetKune Do while adding specific techniques from other martial artswhich are effective. The rule is to "simply simplify".The focus is on knowing what works for you. In combat reality, weuse whatever techniques are best for us as individuals. Brucealso focused on physical conditioning, and we emphasize that aswell.
