Joe,

It was a pleasure to speak with you. I am very excited to learn there is nowa distributor for these bulbs!
I have been keeping reptiles for many years. Most recently, I have adoptedtwo adult Green Iguanas, which were both in pretty poor shape. One of thetwo had symptoms of Metabolic Bone Disease (MBD), the other was severely eggbound.
Providing adequate UV has always been a major problem for me. Anacquaintance of many years is a keeper at the Denver Zoo(http://www.denverzoo.org) in their Tropical Discovery exhibit. From him, Ilearned about the Active UVHeat lamps. Many of the larger reptiles at theDenver Zoo now have all of their unfiltered light provided by these lamps.
At the time I was using a fluorescent bulb, made for reptiles. Themanufacturer claimed it had the highest UV-A and UV-B output of any bulb onthe market for hobbyists. There are several problems in my mind, when itcomes to fluorescent bulbs.

  1. They don't really emit very much useful UV light.
  2. They don't emit UV light for the entire life of the bulb.
  3. Alojamiento en motel SinaiaThey are very expensive, given their short useful lifetime (~6 months)
Each of my Iguanas is housed in a nearly identical set up. Same heatsources, same size cages, same diet, etc. Their cages are 80" long x 44"high x 28" deep. These cages are a little on the small side for them, so Ilet them roam the house as well. However, there is nowhere in the house theycan get unfiltered sunlight. There is a large branch, which spans each cageproviding the animal with a way to get as close or as far from the light asshe desires. The temperature range in each cage goes from ~100F right nearthe lamp housing, down to ~86F at the farthest point from the lamp. Theycool down a little more at night. Heat is provided by heat tape, as well asa ceramic heat emitter. Both animals are fairly small (< 4 feet).
A little over a year ago, I purchased an Active UVHeat lamp, to give it atry and to compare it with the fluorescent bulb I had been using. The firstthing I noticed was an overall improvement in the color of the Iguana. Heroverall color deepened and she developed a very pretty blue color around herhead. Next was the change in her appetite. I could barely get her to eatanything. She had been offered collard greens, mustard greens, greenonions, spinach, kale bok choy, squash, carrots, peas, green pepper, snowpeas, okra, various fruits, etc.. I had tried everything and about the onlything I get down her was frozen peas, which were thawed. I had also beengiving her a liquid calcium supplement, which my veterinarian gave me to seeif it could reverse some of the effects of the MBD.
cheap hotels in SorrentoAfter about a month of the new lamp her diet took off. She is now back onfood and is a voracious eater. She gets about 4 cups of food a day. Her dietis a mix of greens and chopped vegetables, and dusted with a vitamin andcalcium (no D3) supplement. Occasionally, she gets a fruit "treat". She isvery active and very alert. Nothing seems to get by her. She is also holdingherself up now. When I first adopted them, neither would hold themselveselevated, but instead were always laying down. Finally, her muscle tone ismuch improved. She was very thin in her tail and it was also very crooked(MBD). Her tail is straightening out a little bit and is very solid,muscle-wise.
