TAIPEI ANIMALS

Looking forward to a hard-earned summer break from the rigors of Taipei's Businessman's League, the Animals have just one final obstacle to overcome; a bunch of mostly overweight and worryingly hairy foreigners trying to make off with our cup.
It's been a while since the cup has been staged in Taipei, so the Animals are looking forward to finally being able to field a near full-strength team in this competition.
But hometown support is one advantage the Animals realize we are never going to benefit from. Roundly booed and heckled at the various venues around Taiwan, an inexperienced Animal might naively hope to receive the backing of the crowd (if around 30 people can
be called a crowd ) in Taipei. For those of us around when the last Foreigners Cup was held in Taipei in the Spring of 2003 however, the memory of Tainan Phoenix's fans outnumbering ours at least 20 to 1 is still bitterly fresh. And even the few fans we managed to round up didn't seem to particularly like us.
Even though we accept our role as the Manchester United, the Milwall or, even worse, the Bayern Munich of Taiwanese football, the team everyone loves to hate hopes to gain the respect and approval of our footballing brethren and possibly a few new supporters by playing attractive, attacking football.
But if that fails we'll just get Michel to buy us some decent fans. Apropos Michel, the Animals would like to say a huge thank you to Michel from the Tavern and Gerhard from TUV Product Service for continuing to support us financially. At least some people still like us!
Good luck to all teams.

KAOHSIUNG MASSIVE

Boyakasha!!
Kaohsiung Massive was formed in January 2003.
We are an International team from Kaohsiung who have won Headers and Volleys tournaments in Elmslea Community Center, Kazakhstan and are current holders of the Punani Cup.
We have de same crew from de Tainan tournament plus joined forces with de Deutschland Massive Crew.
Crew to watch out for Eman Banana Man and Frank de Human Cartwheel.

RED STAR TAINAN

Red Star Tainan will this time be led by Italian Englishman Tom Paciolla, who is sure to be causing defences some airial problems this weekend.
What he can mold a varied, and sometimes talented, Red Star team into remains to be seen. Don't be surprised if Red Star pick up a result or two in a group where many will doubt them. Good luck to all teams. Jesus plays for Tainan.

SUPER EAGLES

The Super Eagles of Taipei was founded in 2004 by the Nigerian Community resident in Taiwan. The team is mainly for Nigerian's and we also welcome sponsors who are very much interested to be a part of us.
Our aim is to create awareness and to show our football heritage, as Nigerian's as we are well known all over the world as a football nation.
We have more than 25 young and good players to watch out for during this summer competition. Our team colours for this tournament are yellow and light blue.

RED LIONS

The Taipei Red Lions are looking to improve on their previous finish in this Taipei tournament when they were beaten by The Dragons in a dramatic penalty shoot out in the final at a windswept stadium in Hsinchuang. Lions Chairman Tony Hewitt still recalls with horror his missed kick which led to The Dragons victory: the ball moving on the spot as he prepared to strike it.
The setting for this year's competition is the hallowed turf of Bailin Bridge, home of the Businessman's League in which the Lions compete on a weekly basis. It will be interesting to see how the visiting teams cope with trying to keep the ball out of the river.
This year's Lions squad will be led by Captain Ian Chelsea Brown and vice Captain Andy Rooney. Rooney is unfortunately suffering from a long term injury and will not be taking part in proceedings on the pitch, but will doubtless be heard squawking his encouragement from the sidelines whilst eating pies and smoking tabs.
Ex Lions Captain Paddy O Sulivan will of course be there ( teams have been advised to bring strong shinpads and a sense of humour ) as will Kenny Browne, probably coming straight to the pitch from whatever bar he'd been propping up the previous night. Ken has improved a lot recently and can now sometimes be seen passing the ball.
Another of our improved players is Jim Campell, right-back and team scribe. A northerner with a good sense of humour, which is very handy as he plays alongside veteran center half Charlie Watson.
Between the sticks will be team pussy lover ( oo er ) Rob Fowler. Rob has had an outstanding season so far, but still gives defenders heart attacks with his own inimitable style of dealing with back passes.
In midfield will be Alan Tennant. Very much a northerner, Alan doesn't like going South, to play football anyway. Alan will be a great asset to the team assuming he can get his scooter started.
Also in midfield will be the combative Stew Nield, the battling Tim Brown, and punctual goal poacher Volker Nagel, all of whom will be hoping to add another winners medal to their collection.
Veteran Ian Morris will be making his final appearance in this competition as he is leaving the island after more than ten years with the team. Unfortunately, these days it takes him more time to put on all his straps and supports than he actually manages on the pitch.
Finally, two new Lions players. Tommy and Christian will be making their debuts and adding to an already impressive squad.
Let's hope that all the teams enjoy the weekend of football and fun and that at the end of the competition, football is the winner.

TAINAN PHOENIX

Tainan Phoenix are delighted to return to Taipei for our 3rd tournament in the capital, and our 12th overall. We would like to thank the organisers and sponsors for making this event possible. Things have come a long way since we first appeard up here on a rainy day in 2001 and reached the final!
The Phoenix remains a two headed bird, and despite a Bangladeshi led player rebellion is looking stronger then it has done in a while going into thiscompetition. Hugh Hamilton will once again be leading the Phoenix from the front. Tournament ever-present Paul Stead looks set to rejoin the squad in midfield. And, with new defensive stalwart Ferg coming in from Canada there is cause for optimism in what should be a tough group B.
Good luck to all teams. Jesus plays for Tainan. Watch out for a "Phoenix Shoulder".Siv

TIEN MU B52 FC

The Tien Mu B52 F.C. was formed 4 years ago as a social football club, catering for the more mature player as well as short term visitors to Taipei.
From those early days with barely enough to play 5 a side, the club now boasts a membership of over 60 players from all over the world, with a diverse range in age and ability!
The management acknowledges that the Policy of 'Play for all' has become more difficult in view of the numbers and an influx of younger players at the Club, as well as mprovements in the other teams in Taiwan!
To try and strike a balance within the club, whilst maintaining our roots as social football club, we have decided to form and enter a second team, the Tien Mu B53 FC, into the Summer Cup, whom we hope will acquit themselves well.
We would like to thank the Organizers and Sponsors for making the Summer Cup possible and hope that all participating teams enjoy the event. Good Luck to All.

KAOHSIUNG 100 PACERS

My name is Adi Shard, I am the captain of the Kaohsiung 100 Pacers and I am great. My team have been doing very well under my command and I am hoping to do really, really good this year too. I have been teaching the team everything I know about football and they have been learning quikily. I am excited to be in Taipei again because it is nice. I hope my team can do good because we have never done that good in Taipei. Not only am I smart and fast but I am also damn good looking to. In fact, my new wife says I am the most handsomest player on the team. I am number 27K what do you think?

Good luck to all the other smart, fast, good looking players.

SHANE FC

Shane FC was established in the spring of 2003. All players are either current or ex Shane English school teachers from our schools around Taiwan. Shane FC are led onto the pitch each game by the team captain Mark'Skippy' Inskip who has put together a team well known for its consistent performances; finishing 8th in the last four tournaments!
Best moments for the team so far have included a highly charged draw (they scored a lucky last minute equalizer!) with 'The Animals' (who eventually won the tournament) in the spring cup in Tainan this year, humping the B52s 2-0 in a recent Taipei tournament and scoring a goal!
Unfortunately this is a rare occurrence. After months of detailed analysis we have come to the conclusion that scoring will become essential if we are to do well in the summer cup. With our secret weapon of Dave The Rixonator now back to full fitness we hope the forwards will have a little more service. Hopes are high for a good tournament with Jim safe hands Harvey (goal-keeper) promising to turn up sober for the Sunday games this time around
after his experiment with drink and no sleep failed abysmally in Tainan. Jim will be supported at the back by the likes of Tony Hands Up Creaney, Dave The Rock Roberts, Richard Where is the bakery? Jones, Michael Oh well let's give them a penalty White and Rob The Tattoo Low. Supported by these class acts Jim is hoping to keep a string of clean sheets throughout the tournament.

TAIWAN CELTS
Well you might say we are a Gaelic club / social club, with the aim of promoting Irish sport and culture in Asia.
Taiwan Celts Gaelic Football Club was founded in 1996, when a group of young Irish college
graduates found themselves landed in the hustle and bustle of Taipei. At the time Gaelic football was unheard of in Asia, so this group of young enthusiasts thought "why not bring their national sport". And thus, Cumman na Luthchleas Gael was founded. They met every weekend to train and play games, and the number soon grew as people from many different countries came along, taking up the rather surprising opportunity to play a Gaelic sport in Asia.
It didn't stop there. With strong Irish communities in Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore, why not have an Asian Gaelic Games tournament? The Taiwan CLG members saw this as a fantastic opportunity to get all the Irish in Asia together for a weekend of football and craic! After Trojan work by founding members, the first Asian finals were held in Manila in 1996.
The dream had become a reality.
Since then the Asian Games have gone from strength to strength, and the finals have become
more successful every year.
The 2002 Asian Gaelic games were held in Phuket, Thailand, and were presided over by President of Ireland, Her Excellency Mary McAleese, as well as current GAA president, Sean Kelly.

TELETUBBIES

Another unfortunate incident in the Teletubbies recent history could potentially threaten the future of the club as perhaps more mysterious than their triumph in the Taitung Tournament in May was the disappearrance of the team plane on the journey home. Their private jet vanished from radar somewhere over the lesser-known Hualien Triangle only for the players to be found hours later in Taichung, disorientated and speaking "in tongues". little or nothing is known of the missing hours yet many of the players have been strangely affected by the ordeal. Midfielder, Ian Soonass, claimed to have had his "cool" removed, Peter Salfellow had been exposed to some form of facial radiation while Keith Richards appeared visibly younger. The most bizarre twist however was how the talented James Twins had been squashed and
stretched beyond recognition. A big member of the squad was said to be in tact after Tim Biggalow checked out but sadly Gary the Goalie still suffers nightmares of small spherical objects flying over his head. The manager, Bobby Bannister, was left furious at the detriment to his finely tuned athletic machine. "They can stick their probes wherever they want for
as long as they want" he murmoured softly, "they'll never get their hands on my tactics". Just who "they" are remains in doubt. Some say aliens yet some say alibi for a visit to a dodgy karaoke, but whether it was E.T or KTV, the Teletubbies promise to be out of this world this weekend.

TAICHUNG UNITED FC

Taichung United FC is composed of an assortment of international footballers that has evolved over the years into a recognizable force in pussy shit football in Taiwan. Despite its humble beginnings playing in cow fields, it currently holds claim to the 2003 Taiwan Fall Cup and 2003 Southern Taiwan Cup. Yeah, baby. We got it and you don't.
Although the team can't be distinguished as representing any one nation or style, its players find a commonality and cohesiveness in their passion for the bitching at each other and
going on the piss across the city.
On weekends without a regularly scheduled game, the team can be found sleeping off a hangover or perhaps a few playing at Morrison Christian Academy in Taichung city most Sunday afternoons. Don't be on time, because no one ever is. For a listing of game times or to contact the team, please refer to listing in Taichung's Compass Magazine, the team's
co-sponsor together with Taichung's favorite Spanish pub, La Bodega. For a free beer anytime at La Bodega simply walk in and say, Bonne Fete LoLo!

TAIPEI DRAGONS

The Taipei Dragons was founded in 2000 by Victor Liang. The team is one of the most international teams in the Taipei area with players from, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Ghana, Japan, Jamaica, India, Korea, Oman, Mexico and other countries. This international mix has given the team a strong style of football that has earned the Dragaons many victories both at home and abroad. As defending champions of the Taipei Cup, the Dragons intend to do their best to maintain the title. Good Luck to all teams and see you on the pitch!
